Fr. Gordon McCrae is in New Hampshire State Prison serving a 67 year sentence for a crime that he didn’t commit. He has been there for 20 years. His story can be found in the blog : thesestonewalls.com
. Fr McCrae ws working with youth who were involved with drugs. Like other youth on drugs , his accuser needed money to support his habit. Therefor he began fundraising by a series of false accusations about Father and about others . These series of accusations were investigated and quickly dismissed. Then an overzealous detective became involved. He became obsessed . This detective offered huge sums of money and ordered written statements. Eventually the detective’ passion to nail a priest bore poison fruit. Without any witnesses , without any corroboration Fr. McCrae was convicted of alleged sexual abuse of a minor. Father, to this day , claims that he is innocent. If he had lied about his actions and pretended that he was guilty he could have got off with a one year sentence.
Fr. McCrae is not without allies. Dorothy Rabinowitz of The Wall Street Journal wrote a series of articles on his trial pointing out the irregularities and absurdities of the unjust proceeding. The late Fr. Richard John Neuhaus took up his cause as did the late Cardinal Avery Dulles. So you have distinguished, influential people like Neuhaus and Cardinal Dulles, you have a Pulitzer Prize winner of an internationally known and ultra respected Wall Street Journal giving you sympathetic and thorough coverage and you’re still in prison. Why?
You have Bill Donahue of the Catholic Rights League championing your case. Still you are in your stone walls.
In addition Fr. McCrae has become an award winning writer who is read and known throughout the world. He has a reputation consistent with Alexander Solzhenitzyn who was free to live in his home land, Russia. So why is Fr. McCrae “ in the home of the brave and the land of the free “ still in prison?
The reason is he is a priest. A priest is hated with a special hatred by the Nazis in the concentration camps, by the Communists in the Gulag and by the infidels of America In Canada as long as it is a priest that is accused some people are willing to believe anything. Twenty years is enough. Christians have a living martyr. The Anti- Christians have their bogus example. Free Father McCrae now.
