The wolves got Brownie last night.Brownie is our neighbour’s dog. He was their son’s dog and was a badly needed constant in his troubled life. Like all Brabant Lake dogs
he was tied up , making him an easy prey. The next predicted meal is our Charlebois who stays out all the time. We don’t have a gun but we’ll do what we can to protect him. John phoned the Southend SERM office. “Scott “ said this is the first complaint that he’s heard. Strange since this is our second bevy of phone calls and the second blog on the issue. Before Christmas a woman SERM officer phoned me after the third ignored message . I thought that she was giving me grief therapy rather than a promise for action.
How did wolves become not only a protected species but a sacred and “ Holy Cow” ? I had occasion to spend time waiting at an eye specialist office. I picked up an Ecological Nazi magazine called BESIDEeside. It ‘s cover showed a dense forest with a row of log stumps. In case you don’t know that you are suppose to cringe with horror the inside cover explains that an area had been flooded , then drained. The border of stumps shows what man did. The magazine explains that the goal is to protrct Wilderness. Wilderness means untouched by a human footstep, nor seen by binoculars held by a human nor a hand scraping a tree. There are few photos of animals except one of six wolves . An article does mention a research project to save some lakes by destroying others. At present it is costing $1.5 million.
It did not tell us how much the tax funded magazine cost. No advertisements sullied the anti- human propaganda show case.
How did the very sensible , short and balanced Indian Act become a tool for racism? Firstly no one seems to read it so people make up what it says. The Indian Act was intended to assure that starving natives going from a nomadic lifestyle to a confined and agricultural existence would not die in the process. It qualifies that hunting rights can be tempored by conservation laws that affect everyone . It was not intended for a bludgeon that only an aboriginal can kill a wolf that is threatening game ( as in family food) . It was not intended that one has to have a permit to protect yourself, your family or your lifestock , including communal live stock , that is caribou, moose etc. It was not intended that conservation laws would be made on the basis of the level of melanin in your skin. Melanin is the colour pigment that determines one’s shade of brown or pink.
In the mean time people , treaty , non- treaty, females, males , young , old are at the mercy of wolves expanding their hunting territory to our homes and communities when the moose are fleeing south. Gay

God was the first Trapper!
JMJ

40 degrees below, school as usual in Brabant Lake , Saskatchewan
March for Life in Washington, D.C.
God told Adam and Eve that they were to have dominion over His creation. That meant that they were to have good stewardship over the world but clearly that the world was made for them. When Adam and Ever rebelled and were ashamed of their sinfulness they made clothes of fig leaves. God improved on this by killing and covering them with skins. Ergo God was the first Trapper. He made it clear that man could use animals for their protection.
He did not use faux fur, faux hide or faux leather.
There is a difference between a parka trimmed with real wolf or fake fur. One will not freeze and will protect your face from severe frost bite. The other is synthetic that is plastic. In the Great Depression of the 1930's northerners could make a very good living by trapping. Movie stars didn’t go around spray painting baby seals and thus killing them because their mothers abandoned them . They wore fur coats no matter where they lived. Thus every body especially in Canada happily wore fur trim and fur coats. They wore fur coats as a status symbol and to keep warm. Trappers made a living by hard and skillful work just as miners, farmers and oil riggers did and do.
Cows are not endangered because there is a demand for their meat, milk and hides. Martens, fishers, minks, lynx, beavers, muskrats may become endangered because of an elite’s distorted views. If there is no market for the products of these animals why bother keeping vast areas for their homes? They could become only of interest for photographers and zoo keepers.
Wolves have become a sentimental item. No one is supposed to actually kill them for fur or for protection of people’s meat supply . The fairy tales seem to have a more realistic idea of wolves than the citified “ sensitive” crowd. How would this group feel if a wolf or three or four would stroll down their street? Or kill their pet dog a hundred feet from their door?
SERM ( Saskatchewan Environmental Resource Management) seems to think that they are to have policies that fly with the Toronto Coffee House crowd. Wolves.Good. Hunters, especially Hunting -for- Feeding- a- family Hunters. Bad. Moose ? Optional. As long as no one actually hunts them. Just put their picture on souvenirs.
Of course it could be that SERM staff are just lazy. Tracking down hunters who use truck high beams and flood lights is night work and we’re out of here at 4: 45 pm. Answering the phone and returning calls ? Forget it. Unless it’s fire season.
One thing that is not faux ( false) is the cold. But the same elite have been telling us that there is actually global warming. If they want to live in fantasies, fine. But why do we have to pay for their confusion? Gay

Protect our moose not the Wolf Cult
JMJ
Nov.21,2018
Brabant Lake is a community that depends on moose. Moose is the major source of healthy , abundant good meat. Many people were involved with hunting for their annual supply. People here have a track record of being efficient, skillful hunters. They never waste meat . They are generous to share the meat with non- hunters and the elderly. In addition every moose hide is used. Unlike many Northern communities we still have people who are experts at making tanned moose hides. Southend, Reindeer Lake has too much access to government money. They don’t seem to have any or few people who want to do that much work. Entrepreneur Tommy Bird delivers hides to craftsmen and crafts women here who work in the heat of summer and the cold of Fall to make hundreds of excellent smoked hides. Then Tommu Bird of Southend goes to the Far North and sells them. Brabant Lake hide makers nurse their sore shoulders, legs and backs . They go on to work at getting their moose . This year there was a serious hitch. The wolves got our moose. No one got any moose.
Sam Boutin and his parents originally from James Bay, Quebec, have brought a lot of fresh wilderness skills into our community. They have also brought a lot of clear thinking. Wolves are eating our moose supply. They estimate there are at least sixty wolves around Brabant. Therefor you work at eliminating wolves to protect our meat supplies. The wolves are also a direct attack on the family income. The store in Brabant Lake is now called Brabant Lake Resort. He wants to encourage the tourist trade of hunters and fishermen.
Sam Boutin shot a wolf. There needs to be at least twenty more wolves eliminated.. Wolves boldly stroll down the streets in broad day light. At least two sets of three have been spotted. Three of them were wearing tags. There is a case that one shouldn’t walk in the surrounding community and in the streets without being armed. It also helps if you know how to shoot a gun and do it carefully in a populated area.
Then Sam Boutin , after doing a logical and in many ways necessary activity got fined. Worse he got fined because Tommy Bird who runs his dogs in Brabant Lake roads reported him to the SERM office. Apparently Sam doesn’t have a license to kill a wolf.
Sam, being from a real Northern community, one not full of people living off petty bureaucratic rules and welfare thinks that he should solve a problem , not flaunt artificial perks such as whether or not some one is treaty, metis or defines himself as person. Period.
In Saskatchewan one has a right to kill a wolf or coyote that is attacking your sheep or livestock. Moose is a public resource of the people who live in the North. Wolves attack Our resource . Logic is that Northerners have a right to protect our food supply as much as a farmer has a right to protect his income and food supply.
What Tommy Bird did is petty and shameful. H e lives in a community twenty times as large as Brabant Lake. He makes money by selling our hard working efforts.( By our , I mean community members. I know how much work hide making is and prefer something easy like gardening in the wilderness.)
SERM , drop this fine. And Tommy , run your dogs in the confusion and congestion of Southend until you apologise to Brabant Lake via Sam Boutin. Gay
